Respite care, so family caregivers can rest

Respite care is short-term relief for the family member who does the day-to-day caring. A few hours, a long weekend, a week while you travel. We step in so you can step away, and so the person you love stays in the routine that works for them.

Who is this for?

  • Spouses, adult children, and other family members who are the primary caregiver.
  • Families who want to travel, attend an event, or simply rest without worry.
  • Households where one person is carrying most of the care and is wearing thin.
  • Hospice families who need a few hours to step away.

What's included

  • Short visits of a few hours, day visits, overnight stays, or longer respite stays
  • Personal care, companionship, meals, and medication reminders during the visit
  • Following the routine your family already uses so the person being cared for feels at home
  • Reports back to the family caregiver on how the visit went

How it works

  1. Call to plan the respite

Tell us when you need the break and how long. A single afternoon or a week is fine.

  2. Free planning visit

We visit the home, meet the person who will be cared for, and write down the routine so nothing is missed.

  3. Match the caregiver and confirm the schedule

We pair a caregiver with the right experience, confirm times and expectations, and put the plan in writing.

  4. You step away, we step in

Care happens on schedule. You get updates as agreed, and we keep the household running the way you would.

Common questions

How much notice do you need?

More notice is better, but we can often arrange short-notice respite within a day or two. For longer stays, a week or more of lead time helps us match the right caregiver.

Can respite happen overnight?

Yes. Overnight respite is common, whether the caregiver stays awake or is on-call in a nearby room. We will set that up during planning.

Is respite care covered by Medicaid or insurance?

Some respite services are covered under Idaho Medicaid for qualifying individuals. Long-term-care insurance often includes respite. VA benefits may apply for veterans. We can help you check what is available.

Will the same caregiver come every time?

For recurring respite, we aim to use the same caregiver so the person receiving care sees a familiar face. For one-off respite, we match based on experience and fit.

Caregiver burnout is real. Taking a break is not a failure. It is the thing that lets you keep going.
